After more than than a week in detention, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowere has finally been granted bail by a magistrate court in Abuja.
The magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello, granted Sowore, arrested on New Year’s eve, on Monday asking him to produce two sureties, along with a N20 million bond.
Sowore was arrested with four other activists, who were also granted bail at N1m each, for holding a protest against bad governance.

The police charged Sowore, Peter Williams, Damilare Adenola, Emmanuel Bulus and Juwon Samyaolu for unlwaful assembly and public disturbance.
The magistrate however ordered Sowore to remain report to the court registrar every Monday and Friday pending the hearing and determination of the case against him.
Segun-Bello said the bail was given to fulfill their fundamental rights to liberty but added that the defendant be closely watched for public peace to reign.
