Former US presidents, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama have joined world leaders in congratulating the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden.
Bill Clinton tweeted that, “America has spoken and democracy has won.” He said Biden and Harris would “serve all of us and bring us all together.”
Jimmy Carter, in his own statement said he and his wife, Rosalynn, were “proud” of the Democrats’ “well-run campaign and seeing the positive change they bring to our nation.”
The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “Congratulations, @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Our two countries are close friends, partners, and allies. We share a relationship that’s unique on the world stage. I’m really looking forward to working together and building on that with you both.”
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Twitter: “Good that finally we have some clear numbers. We look forward to working with the next US government. We want to invest in our cooperation for a new transatlantic beginning, a new deal.”
The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo tweeted, “Welcome back America! Congratulations to @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris for their election! While we are about to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, this victory symbolizes our need to act together more than ever, in view of climate emergency.”
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said, “I want to congratulate the new President Elect of the USA @JoeBiden Joe Biden has been a true friend of this nation throughout his life and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.” .
