AU Concerned Over Maltreatment Of Africans In China

The Africa Union (AU) has called for immediate action to remedy the maltreatment of Africans in China.

A video of Chinese officials discriminating and subjecting Africans to bad treatment had surfaced online, prompting reactions and criticisms.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, AU chairperson, in a tweet on Saturday, said the AU had invited Chinese ambassador to the AU, Mr. Liu Yuxi, to express its concern over the allegation of maltreatment of Africans in China.

Mahamat also said the AU demanded urgent and immediate remedy to ensure the safety of all Africans in China.

He said, “My Office invited the Chinese Ambassador to the AU, Mr. Liu Yuxi, to express our extreme concern at allegations of maltreatment of Africans in #Guangzhou called for immediate remedial measures in line with our excellent relations.

Mahamat said African Group was also engaging the Chinese government in Beijing to ensure that the situation was under control.

He said, “The African Group in #Beijing is also engaging with the government.”
