The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has said that the sudden multiple deaths recorded in Kano State in the last few days have nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kano State had in the past 36 hours lost as many as 24 persons, including high profile citizens of the state.
Among the dead are professors, technocrats, businessmen, an editor and a senior banker.
These sudden deaths within short period have generated many reactions from Nigerians, who believe that those died must have been infected with COVID-19.
However, the Emir in a statement on Sunday said that the deaths, contrary to what many people had believed were not connected to the pandemic.
“We have been informed by the ministry that the deaths were not as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. This report is really important, the report has further confirmed to us that COVID-19 is real and that as of today about 73 people have tested positive for the pandemic.
“My people, with regards to this situation, it has become necessary for us to remind you of the need to follow all the necessary medical advice,” Ado Bayero stated.
He however advised the residents of the state to observe the safety guidelines of social distancing and personal hygiene in order to remain safe from the virus.
