The Nigeria Police on Friday refuse to grant bail to human rights activists, Omoyele Sowore and may be planning to charge to court for breaching COVID-19 rules after his violent arrest on New Year’s eve.
Sowore suffered injuries during the arrest and images have appeared on social media, showing him battered and bleeding in police custody.
The picture show Omoyele Sowore with blood dripping from his forehead and drops of blood on his clothing while in detention at the headquarters of the Intelligence Response Unit of the Nigeria Police.
Sowore was arrested, along with four other activists, in the middle of a procession to mark the New Year.
The police on Friday refused to grant him bail, while accusing him of breaching COVID-19 rules. Sources have told TheInterview the police could charge on Monday for breaching the rules.
Sahara Reporters on Friday, however said Sowore had been examined by his personal physician who was at the detention facility.
Sowore had tweeted before his arrest:
