The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Rose Oko, has died at the age of 63.
It was learned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member passed away on Monday night in a hospital in the United Kingdom where she had been receiving treatment in the last month.
Confirming the story, one of her aides said: “She passed on last night in the UK where she has been in the last one month.”
The late Senator, who was born on September 27, 1956, was elected as the first female representative from her Senatorial District in June 2015 and re-elected in 2019.
Oko was the chairman, Senate Committee on Trade and Investment before her death and was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) during the 8th Senate.
The late lawmaker was a member of the House of Representatives when she represented the Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency in the 7th National Assembly.
She was elected into office as the first female representative from her constituency in June 2011 and served as the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Education.
