Super Eagles defender, Williams Troost-Ekong, says they are determined to achieve success at the next Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after securing qualification with a 1-1 draw away to South Africa in their Match Day five of the qualifiers.

You made the Serie A Team of the Week before the international break, how does it feel for you especially with someone like Cristiano Ronaldo in the same team?
It was as a result of hard work, although I would have loved to change it for three points for my team, but it shows that I am on the right way and moving forward.

Your game seems to be going the upward way since moving to the Serie A,  and as a defender you must have been learning few things; can you let us into those things?

That was more reason while I moved to the league. It’s a good league for defenders; you can’t but learn playing in Italy every week. That has reflected in my game and with years to come, I am sure of getting better more and more.

“There are many new players in the team now, including myself in the recent years who are hungry to show what we can do. With this new generation, we have a lot ahead of us although we are focusing on the AFCON at the moment.”

Nigeria missed out of the last two AFCON, but new resurgence in the team with qualification for the AFCON and also some new players in the team showing good stuff, what’s the secret?
Perhaps the last disappointment of not qualifying for the last two AFCON was the rebirth for Nigeria football. There are many new players in the team now, including myself in the recent years who are hungry to show what we can do.

With this new generation, we have a lot ahead of us although we are focusing on the AFCON at the moment and I think we are highly motivated after our qualification in South Africa and we will see what we can do when we get there.
So what would you say to Nigerians, especially the fans?
I want to thank them for the great support as they have been part of the success so far. They have been there for us home and away. My message to them is to continue to stay behind the team. They should be patient with the new players in the team and I can assure them we are going to make them proud.
