The Presidential Task Force On COVID-19 on Tuesday released the phased for the COVID-19 vaccination process.
The programme which was officially launched on Monday is expected to kick-off imminently following the arrival of the first batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
In a series of tweets released on Monday, the first phase was listed as “All frontline health workers to be vaccinated; – Vaccines to be deployed to states based on their level of preparedness; – Cargo planes to be provided for the transport of the vaccines to states.”
Phase 2 “Vaccination of 60yrs & above to occur first (Group 1), then – Vaccination of 50 – 59yrs (Group 2) to follow.”
Phase 3, “Vaccination of those between 18 – 49years with co-morbidities (such as hypertension, diabetes, lung disease, other heart disease, liver or renal disease, etc).”
Phase 4, “Vaccination of the rest of the eligible population between ages 18 – 49years.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, said all vaccines coming to Nigeria would be permitted to arrive only at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Entry via any other airport will be deemed illegal and subject to confiscation.
The minister added that for now the private sector will not be allowed to offer COVID vaccines in Nigeria citing that the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health and NAFDAC has to sign an indemnity clause for all COVID vaccines used in Nigeria, and will not sign for what it has no control over.
