Professor Ebere Onwudiwe, a fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development has died from complications due to COVID-19.
A statement signed by Menmme Onwudiwe on behalf of his family said he died on January 9, 2021.

The statement read, “With deep sadness and submission to the will of God, we announce the sudden death of Chief Prof. Ebere Onwudiwe, Mba 1 of Isunjaba, due to the complications of the global pandemic, on January 9, 2021.
“Prof. Onwudiwe was a man who loved his family and friends. He held from Isunjaba, Imo State, Nigeria. Prof. Onwudiwe was an author, a columnist, and a social commentator of issues relating to Nigeria and Africa.”
Before relocating to his beloved country Nigeria, Prof. Onwudiwe was the Director of the Centre for African Studies at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, where he served as Professor Emeritus.
The family said in the statement that they will provide information about his burial arrangement soon.
