Unidentified gunmen are reported to have struck again in Mayo-Belwa town in Adamawa State and whisked away a 90-year-old man, Alhaji Dahiru Hammanyero Nyako.

The abducted old man is an elder brother to a former governor of the state, Murtala Nyako, who had recently lost another elder brother, late Isa Hammanyero Nyako.

Locals say the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers struck in the midnight, firing shots to scare residents.

“They came in numbers firing gun shots to scare us in late midnight.

“All efforts to get security intervention to no avail, despite the presence of the Operation Farauta that has soldiers, police officers and civil defense corps in its team.

“They (Gunmen) succeeded in whisking him away with no resistance, today the whole town is in atmosphere of agony and despair,” a local resident who doesn’t want his name mentioned said.

In the meantime all efforts to get the council chairman or Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Mayo-Belwa, have been futile.

Residents now sleep with two eyes opened due to the incessant attacks by gunmen in the area.
