Ifeanyi Orajaka: Solutions Oriented

Think of young people bringing solutions to the table in our society and one name comes to the fore – Ifeanyi Orajaka, a young man whose dedication to solving real life problems can’t be ignored.

Orajaka, a graduate of electrical/electronic engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, is one of the bright minds proffering practical solutions to the problem of epileptic power supply and rural electrification in Nigeria in his own little way.

For Oraja, it all began in his third year in the university. His passion to see a working renewable energy system prodded him to execute a renewable energy project as his undergraduate thesis.

Today, his dream has birthed Green Village Electricity, a micro-scale renewable energy and electricity provider to remote settlements that are not connected to the national grid, reaching 2,000 households with power and creating over 400 direct and indirect local jobs.

His novel idea on renewable energy won him a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) competition, with a grant to provide energy solutions to remote villages in Nigeria as a youth corps member in 2012.

GVE has continued to gain international recognition, attracting collaboration from international organisations, while Oraja is growing into a renowned expert in renewable energy systems design, installation/maintenance and GIS-based rural electrification planning.
