The annual Badagry Diaspora Festival is a unique Pan-African celebration using Badagry as a mini Africa. The town played a significant role in the development, growth and the eventual abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade along the coast of West Africa (the ancient slave coast) from where tens of Millions of Africans were shipped to Europe and the Americas, the Caribbean, and the West Indies and Articles of Trade between the 16th and 19th Century. It is the history of these Africans in foreign land as it affects their struggles for liberation, the attainment of freedom, the battle for egalitarianism and global contributions to Human Development and Civilization that the Badagry Festival celebrates annually.
