While MTN and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) are bracing up for a court battle, we have been informed that the company’s attempt to negotiate a further reduction, after its fine was reduced from $5.2million to $3.9million, rubbed the Presidency up the wrong way. A source told IC, “MTN wrote the Presidency for audience to negotiate the penalty further. The Presidency sent a short, angry reply, that it will not tolerate any further correspondence from MTN and asked it to go and pay.” We gathered that the company had tried to reach President Buhari through many influential contacts, including Ahmed Joda, who refused to intervene.
