President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari is in shock over the latest mass killings by Boko Haram/Islam in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gubio village, Borno State, according to the Presidency.

The attackers were said to have carried out multiple attacks in the village between Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving many people dead.

Although, Buhari’s reaction to the attacks did not indicate the casualty figures, unconfirmed reports gave figures ranging from 69 to 81 lives.

However, the President said he was awaiting full briefing by the Governor of Borno state, Prof Babagana Zulum.

Buhari added that the “primordial nature of the killings is particularly shocking because it happened not long after the Ramadan and Eid, and the country is preparing to celebrate the Democracy Day.”

He directed the Nigerian Armed Forces to “sustain their recent string of successes against the terrorists to extract a heavy price from the attackers, and bring back all those they kidnapped as well as the large number of cattle rustled.”

His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said the President “expressed the sincere condolences of the government and people of Nigeria to the bereaved families, communities and the government and people of Borno state.”
