The story of Kehinde Paul, a gold medal winning powerlifter who has made Nigeria proud at the international scene, will inspire many out there who see their disability as a disadvantage.
From winning gold at the men’s 72kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning gold in the 2015 IPC powerlifting Asian Open Championship in the Republic of Kazakhstan to winning gold at the Rio 2016 Paralympics 65kg powerlifting competition, Paul’s success story and giant strides reaffirm the veracity in the popular adage that there is ability in disability.
Of course, powerlifting might not attract much glamour as other sport. However, Paul has done well for himself as a powerlifter with global recognition. His superb performance at the Rio 2016 Paralympics 65kg powerlifting event saw him break a world record and set a new one in the same competition.
Indeed, Paul’s winning The Future Awards Africa Prize For Sports 2016 was well deserved and his story will continue to give hope to many that their disability is not necessarily incapacitation.
