Tosin Ajibade: Blogging Her Way To The Top
A writer, blogger and media entrepreneur, she is one of the young Nigerian ladies, who has made a good career for herself, venturing into an enterprise quit different from her discipline.
Known for her lifestyle and entertainment website, olorisupergal.com, she is a graduate of accounting from Lagos State University who has morphed into an award winning blogger upon obtaining a Certificate in Media Enterprise.
As a blogger, she has used her platform to support the cause of the girl-child. Remarkably, Ajibade’s story on a girl sexually assaulted by her school teacher in Queen’s College, Lagos, went viral and drew the attention of relevant authorities to it.
Ajibade made the YNaija’s list of the most influential women in Nigeria in 2014 and 2015 consecutively. She also emerged the winner of The Future Awards Ebonylife Prize for New Media 2016.
With the likes of Ajibade giving her voice to the plight of the girl-child in our society, there is certainly hope of a better future for the girl-child in the coming generations.
Bukola Bolarinwa: It’s in her Blood
In a clime where cultural superstitious beliefs make convincing people donate blood as hard as bringing water out of a rock, Bolarinwa chose to make a difference through her advocacy for blood donation.
Spurred by her experience as a child born with sickle cell disease, Bolarinwa’s zeal and commitment to sensitising the public and creating a platform to link voluntary blood donors to those in need of blood transfusion is remarkable.
Driven by passion to create awareness to stop sickle cell disease and ensure regular blood donation to those who need blood transfusion, Bolarinwa started a monthly campaign in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Service, the country’s blood bank.
In 2015, she launched an online blood donation register to encourage young people to donate blood in emergency situations. Through the use of social media, her initiative has recorded over 1,000 prospective donors and has linked 500 donors with patients in urgent need of blood.
As such, her giant strides have attracted international attention, earning her The Queen’s Young Leader Award, an award that celebrates exceptional young people between the age of 18 and 28 in the Commonwealth. She also won Future Awards Africa Prize for Advocacy 2016.
Her vision to recruit 5000 registered blood donors by the end of this year, gives a glimpse into how passionate she is about touching life’s. Indeed, Bolarinwa is a rare gem.
Julius Adewepo: Leading with Agriculture
Julius Adewepo is a young Nigerian multi-award winning academic who has made Nigeria proud at the international scene.
After graduating from Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, he got a postgraduate degree in Forest Science at the University of Arkansas-Monticello where his Master’s thesis won the 2014 International Award of Forestry Research Organisation (IUFRO).
Julius has participated in many international and professional conferences across six countries and was twice a delegate to the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) at the UN headquarters in New York.
For his works, he has received several awards, including best graduate student oral presentation (3rd place) at the Society of American Foresters Conference; best graduate poster presentation (runner-up) at the International Forest Products Society Conference, SWS William K. Robertson Fellowship, and UF International Centre (UFIC) Scarborough Maud-Fraser Award.
Adewepo emerged the winner of The Future Awards Africa Prize in Agriculture 2016.
