Our neighbouring Commander-in-Thief

The biggest demon confronting the Nigerian authorities as they try to tackle smuggling is so daunting; Nigeria doesn’t exactly know how to deal with it. Sources close to the country’s western border informed us that the president of a neighbouring country is the biggest suspect. If the smugglers were small fry using okada or second-hand vehicles along bush paths and bribing their way through Customs, it would still a herculean task to contain the damage they’re doing to the country’s economy. With the Oga at the top on the other side of Badagry involved, it’s a different ball game – and he’s playing it very, very big. We understand that if quiet diplomatic channels fail, something drastic might happen soon.
