Obadiah Mailafia Former CBN Deputy Governor Is Dead

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria made news recently when he said in a radio interview that the commander of Boko Haram in Nigeria was a sitting northern governor.

Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, the presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 general elections is dead.

Reports say that Mailafia who was 64 years at the time of his death died at midnight after an undisclosed brief illness.

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria made news recently when he said in a radio interview that the commander of Boko Haram in Nigeria was a sitting northern governor.

This earned him a couple of invitations from the Department of State Services (DSS) where he was interrogated on the source of the information.

He later recanted and said that he got the information of the Boko Haram Haram commander governor from Fulani Traders in the market.

Born on December 24, 1956, in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mailafia had his university education at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated top of his class in 1978.

He was a career economist, banker and international development specialist with over 25 years of experience.

Mailafia also served as special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on economic and policy matters.
