Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state, plans to deny his predecessors in office, including Bola Tinubu, Babastunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Abode and even Lateef Jakande of the second republic, their pensions and entitlements, which runs into hundreds of millions of naira.
The governor said this while delivering his budget speech to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The governor according to his speech to the lawmakers, hopes the repeal of the 2007 pensions law will cut the cost of governance.
The governor, however did not mention how he intends to go in repealing the law and if he intends to replace the 2007 law.

The entitlements of former governors coverage their medical bill, housing, personal aides, utility bills and transportation.
He said there was need to come up with innovative ways of keeping the costs of governance at a minimum while engendering a spirit of selflessness in public service.
He said, “Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House imminently for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies.
“It is our firm belief that with dwindling revenues and the appurtenant inflationary growth rates, that we need to come up with innovative ways of keeping the costs of governance at a minimum while engendering a spirit of selflessness in public service.”
