The six states of the Southwest, namely Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti have laid out plans to reopen schools in the region sometime in August.
This is to enable graduating students sit for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), according to a statement by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN)
The agreement between the states was reached when their commissioners for education met in a virtual meeting put together by the DAWN.
DAWN also said the six states would reopen schools for SS3 pupils on August 3 with COVID-19 preventive measures put in place.

The states plan to approach both the federal government and WAEC to seek the postponement of the WASSCE by at least three weeks from its proposed date until at least August 24.
The states also plan to embark on intensive advocacy campaigns to stakeholders, including parents, teachers, caregivers, school owners and pupils on what is expected of them when schools reopen.
