Buhari Appoints Ibrahim Gambari Chief Of Staff To Replace Abba Kyari

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Ibrahim Gambari as his Chief of Staff, to replace Abba Kyari who died from COVID-19 last month.

The presidency is however yet to make a formal announcement on the appointment, which sources tell The Interview, takes immediate effect.

The President will announce the new appointment formally during the Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting on Wednesday, the sources told The Interview.

Professor Gambari, a former undersecretary at the United Nations also served as Buhari’s external affairs minister when he was military head of state between 1984 and 1985.

He was also appointed by the former secretary-general of United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, and the chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur effective from 1 January 2010.

Born in Ilorin, Kwara State in 1944, Gambari has lectured in several universities in the United States, as well as in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
