NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL
When: August 30, 2

Where: Notting Hill, London – UK017

Notting Hill Carnival is one of the highlight’s of London’s summer calendar. Every August bank holiday weekend, the normally sedate Notting Hill explodes into a riot of steel drums, exuberantly decorated floats and those dancers.

Those taking part in the carnival have put in months and months of preparation – but the joy for spectators is turning up, and embracing whatever comes your way. Everyone dances, even people who never dance – the music is just too infectious not to. You might not quite reach the standard of the carnivalistas on the float (I certainly don’t anyway) but dance your feet off anyway. You’ll have to wait another 364 days for the opportunity to come round again.

Green Man Festival

When:  August 17-20, 2017

Where: Brecon Beacons, Wales.

Lush indie sounds in the verdant Brecon Beacons

Green Man wins our unofficial prize for best festival setting: nestled in the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains are not usually open to the public, but for one weekend of the year they play host to bands and (civilised) bad behaviour. This stunning location accentuates the always eclectic ever dull lineup and ecofriendly focus. This year’s lineup follows the Green Man tradition of left leaning plugged in bands and electronic DJs peppered with folk crooners.

La Tomatina Festival

When: August 27, 2017

Where: Spain

This Spanish festival in Bunol is the most famous food fight in the world! It primarily consists of attendees throwing tomatoes at each other, to the point where the city is doused in tomato juice.

Preparations are already being made, with more than 100 tonnes of ripe tomatoes to be delivered to the town centre. For convenient accommodation options, Valencia is your best bet as Bunol only has limited places available.

Ticketing was introduced in 2013 because the small town couldn’t accommodate the number of attendees. Before last year it’s estimated a massive 30,000 people showed up for the festival. Get your tickets and bring your old clothes, closed shoes, goggles and get ready to have some fun!
